چکیده

Preliminary work on real-time hand-gesture recognition for SAVI (Stereo Active Vision Interface) is introduced. Based on the detection of frontal faces, image regions near the face are searched for the existence of skin-tone blobs. Each blob is evaluated to determine if it is a hand held in a standard pose. A verification algorithm based on the responses of elongated oriented filters is used to decide whether a hand is present or not. Once a hand is detected, gestures are given by varying the number of fingers visible. The hand is segmented using an algorithm which detects connected skin-tone blobs in the region of interest, and a medial axis transform (skeletonization) is applied. Analysis of the resulting skeleton allows detection of the number of fingers visible, thus determining the gesture. The skeletonization is sensitive to strong shadows which may alter the detected morphology of the hand.

Human Computer Interaction Using Vision-Based Hand Gesture Recognition

With the rapid emergence of 3D applications and virtual environments in computer systems; the need for a new type of interaction device arises. This is because the traditional devices such as mouse, keyboard, and joystick become inefficient and cumbersome within these virtual environments. In other words, evolution of user interfaces shapes the change in the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). In...

Real - Time Hand Tracking and Gesture Recognition System Using Neural Networks

system to recognize real time gesture in unstrained environments. Efforts should be made to adapt computers to our natural means of communication: Speech and body language. A simple and fast algorithm using orientation histograms will be developed. It will recognize a subset of MAL static hand gestures. A pattern recognition system will be using a transforrn that converts an image into a featur...

Applying mean shift and motion detection approaches to hand tracking in sign language

Hand gesture recognition is very important to communicate in sign language. In this paper, an effective object tracking and hand gesture recognition method is proposed. This method is combination of two well-known approaches, the mean shift and the motion detection algorithm. The mean shift algorithm can track objects based on the color, then when hand passes the face occlusion happens. Several...

Hand Gestures Classification with Multi-Core DTW

Classifications of several gesture types are very helpful in several applications. This paper tries to address fast classifications of hand gestures using DTW over multi-core simple processors. We presented a methodology to distribute templates over multi-cores and then allow parallel execution of the classification. The results were presented to voting algorithm in which the majority vote was ...
